An annual event that has been sponsored by the European Union and is usually held during the EU week. This year however because of the rains and the Holy month of Ramadhan, the caravan had to be postponed to 12th August.
The event pulls in cyclists from all wakes of life, the commuters to the professionals who have an opportunity to cycle together on road have been cordoned off of traffic and having a very simple, slow ride. The largest the event crowd has been is 600 cyclists, however the numbers fluctuate every year, and this year because schools will be closed, and summer holidays are coming to an end, there is possibility of large numbers.
Cyclists arrive from 7am and are given reflector jackets and also numbers for a lucky draw at the end of the caravan are given to everyone. Lucky numbers get a bicycle or a tricycle depending on their lucky. The caravan goes through Biafra grounds, where all cyclists get water and snacks before continuing back to Mnazi Mmoja grounds.
All ages, race, sex, creed and religions come together to cycle as one big great family.
